According to UWI there are possibilities of the market value for medicinal marijuana in the US multiplying more than five times, from $US2.7 billion in 2014 to $US13 billion in 2019, and that is the market being targeted.

The new UWI “high” on marijuana (Cannabis) research is featured in the institution’s latest magazine, The Pelican, in which professors based at the Mona Campus, Kingston, bemoan the fact that the US State of Colorado earns US$100 million in monthly medical marijuana sales.

They feel UWI and Jamaica can earn a significant share of the global market in pharmaceuticals made from marijuana, “bringing jobs and much needed development”.
